This is my portfolio website! Developed directly after my environmental website, this is the second website that I have made. This is a space to display my prior work, both from class and from future jobs. I wanted this website to have a sky theme where each page represents a different time of day, The home page is dawn, the about page is mid day, the resume page is a rainy day, the portfolio page is sunset, and the contact page is the night sky. I also wanted a sort of gamey feel and made use of pixelated fonts and pixel drawings that I made myself.
Instead of creating a physical, paper prototype, I created a digital prototype within Clip Studio Paint. Here it's clear that my initial ideas were significantly different. At this point, the pages were all homogenous in design and utilized the same blue background and pink cloud shapes. The images were completely different, and instead of focusing on times of day, it focused on different types of clouds.
I had wanted to get more experimental with the shapes of my website, but ultimately ended up scrapping that by the final website.
My high fidelity prototype uses the shapes of the original paper prototype as I still intended to include lots of cloud shapes at this point. It also, however, includes the idea of each page having its own time of day theming. I had started finalizing the colors that my website would use at this point. Shades of pink, yellow blue and indigo. I determined that the time of day for each page should be determined by where it is located on the nav bar. The left side would represent earlier points in the day while those to the right are later parts of the day. The only exception is the resume page, which I wanted to keep a little bit plainer by utilizing a greyscale rainy day theme.
I also had picked out some pixel fonts at this point. However the font I selected ended up not being available for web use, and I needed to search for an alternative font to use instead. Eventually I settled upon 04B_30.
In this project, I prototyped and built this website.
A big challenge was separating the ideas I wanted to incorporate from those I knew how to incorporate at this point. While I may have liked to include the cloud shapes in the banner, I didn't actually know how to include them, and they would take up more screen space as well.
