Photographer and Photo Editor
Photography and Photoshop Class
Spring, 2024
This is a summary of all the photos that I made during my photography class. I enjoy photography a lot! My favorite photography projects are the ones where I can get up close and personal with small objects in order to see all their details and make them feel large.
This was the first large scale project. I was meant to experiment with different compositions and angles. I ended up deciding to theme these compositions around my two ItemLabel Peepy, these little alien plushies that are criminals with an obsession for peanuts. The theme was simple. These two wanted to break into the kitchen in order to steal some peanuts. It's a Peepy heist.
I had fun taking these worms eye view pictures, getting down low in order to make each picture from their perspective. Additionally, my dog is blind and deaf, so getting him to cooperate proved a fun challenge.
This project required layering two images on top of each other to create this interesting ghostly effect. I liked the idea of making a literal shadow puppet. Since I have access to a dog, I got a picture of me doing a dog shadow puppet, then merged a picture of my dog on top of the shadow puppet itself.
This project was centered around taking pictures of inorganic structures, mainly arcitecture. The first two pictures come from my local church, All Saints. The first is a picture of it's rafters and the second is a picture of it's stained glass windows.
The third picture, meanwhile, is the inside of my oven. I took this picture by placing my phone on a stand on top of a metal pan, setting it on a timer, and shutting the oven before the picture was taken to make the lighting feel more enclosed. The 'window' in the back is actually just the oven lightbulb.
This was a project where I was meant to find a stock image online that has some small scale blemishes and use photoshop to remove those blemishes. This project came with a lot of discussion towards the ethics of photo manipulation and what is and isn't acceptable to remove. Our general consensus in class is that removing parts of a photo that are likely to go away naturally within a short period is reasonable. Acne tends to show up and then leave just as quickly. Meanwhile scars and body fat are more of a long term part of the body, and have more of an effect on a person's self image. The ethics of editting these are questionable.
These photos revolve around controlled lighting. All of these were taken at night to try and reduce any natural lighting. I ended up going with a theme of 'What do stuffed animals do at night when their owners are asleep?'
These Pokemon Vileplume picture utilizes a light that is hidden behind a yellow piece of fabric to give the photo a warmer tone. This fabric is draped around to give a blanket fort effect.
The ItemLabel Dinkle photo only uses light from the 3DS. It's meant to feel sneakier. Like a kid trying to play games when they are meant to be asleep.
The ItemLabel Oui Oui in a Build a Bear house photo uses a light that is shining through the opposite hole of the Build a Bear house in order to light up the space.
The Pokemon Snivy photo is taken on a black piece of fabric to help make it darker. The lighting is colder as the goal was to make it feel as though the photo were in an artifical outdoors, lit by an artificial moon.
The Pokemon Cubone photo is lit using a cold light and warm light from two sides. To me, it looks as though a candlelight were approaching and the two have found a safe place to retreat and wait it out.
This project was to take macro photos. Photos that were blown up images of different objects so that the viewer can see the finer details of them. My theme for this project was just my Sunday clothes that I wore to church that week. The photos consist of one of my shirts, a hole in my jeans, my bag, a fluffy jacket, and the laces of my shoe.
For this project, the goal was to take photos of outdoor objects during different times of day with different weather. I was meant to take photos of the subjects in natural lighting during golden hour, with natural soft lighting, natural hard lighting, at noon, and with light coming at an angle. For these photos, my theming was to simply take photos of flowers from my garden.
