Storyboard and Animator
Animation Class
Fall, 2024
When making my final animation, I knew I wanted to do a segment of Skull Crusher Mountain. My friend once told me that Skull Crusher Mountain reminds them of my character Saturn since he's a mad scientist who experiments with creating monsters. So I centered the animation around my character, Saturn, and their character, Mars.
Though I only needed 30 seconds of animation, I ended up making around a minute of storyboard. I would end up not using the second half of the storyboard. I also didn't end up making a specific rig or reference for this animation and just drew using my storyboards, which might have taken more energy in the long run.
To help with the flow of animating, I start by laying out the storyboard to the tune of the song so I know where each bit is meant to go. I generally like these animatics more than the final product.
Instead of using the original end animation, I decided to swap styles and make it an end credits scene just to take it easier. The end segment was all animated in one day while the rest took about three weeks.
