Modeler and Texture Maker
3D Modeling Class
Fall, 2024
This is a 3D model of two of my characters', Pickle and Cerulean's, bedroom. I decided to pick this bedroom because Pickle is notably a very messy guy who doesn't clean up after himself often, and I thought it would be interesting to try and make a small, cluttered room with lots of little details. This model was made in Autodesk Maya. All objects were sculpted by me and all textures save for the laptop screen and switch screen were made by me. The laptop screen shows a screenshot of the anime 'Magical Girl Raising Project' and the Switch shows a screenshot from Pokemon Sword and Shield.
This was my first largescale, hard model project in any program, so it took lots of time and effort. However, I had so much fun with it that all of my free time went to modeling. Maya is an incredibly fun program for me to use and I love modeling in it. Even the harder parts of the project weren't especially stressful.
This room has many small details that are harder to notice. Pickle and Cerulean haven't fully moved in yet, so the desk Pickle's laptop is on is made out of unpacked boxes and a shelf that he hasn't put up. In the corner, there's a sewing machine that he uses to make cosplay. Under the wardrobe are discarded cups, stuffed toys, switch boxes, and thread that Pickle dropped and forgot about. Cerulean doesn't actually sleep, so his bed is completely covered by his dragon plush.
My main problem with this model is that I made it on my own laptop, which struggled with render previews. Glass in particular was difficult to render, and as a result, I didn't get the cups as transparent as intended. I made two versions with different lighting as the background I made ended up having incredibly strong lighting.
I wanted to give a gamey feel to the room, so I went with creating my own pixel art textures for everything. Reminiscent of something like Casette Beast where it's a hybrid 3D pixel style! All of these were made in Clip Studio Paint.
